Big events during July, 2021 include... Artown Opening Night - Thursday, July 1, 2021. Come to Rancho San Rafael Regional Park for the start to Artown, which lasts the whole month of July. The featured act on opening night is The Hot Sardines. Plastic Free July - The Plastic Free July website is a great motivator and resource to start your plastic-free lifestyle. To sign up and take the Plastic Free July challenge, go to the Plastic Free July website. Discover Your Parks Walks - Thursday, July 1, 2021. Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is leading free walks in different parks located in Washoe County from April through September, 2021. This first July walk will be at Wingfield Park. Others will be on July 8, 15, 22 and 29. Walks start at 6 p.m. 4th of July Fireworks and Celebrations - Sunday, July 4, 2021. Some of the big fireworks shows are back for 2021, plus other 4th of July activities going on around the area. July Fourth with the Reno Phil - American Salute - Saturday and Sunday, July 3 - 4, 2021, 7:30 p.m. In celebration with Artown, the Reno Phil Orchestra, Chorus and vocalist Kyle Rea will perform patriotic and classical favorites at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. This family friendly performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will end with a fantastic firework finale. Tickets are $20 per pod (holds 4) and available online. Reno Aces Baseball - No baseball on the 4th of July, but the Aces play a six game homestand against the Las Vegas Aviators from July 8 through July 13, 2021. There will be fireworks after the game on Friday, July 9. American Century Championship - Tuesday through Sunday, July 6 - 11, 2021. The 32nd annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament will be at Edgewood-Tahoe Golf Course near South Lake Tahoe and Stateline. Players have been Charles Barkley, Larry the Cable Guy, Roger Clemens, John Elway, Andre Iguodala, Heather LeMaster, Dan Quayle, Bret Saberhagen, Joe Theismann, Michael Waltrip, and many, many more. A limited number of live spectators will be allowed. Library Book Sale - July 10 - 18, 2021. Library book sales are in the mall space next door to the Sierra View Library in the Reno Town Mall. Preview day for Friends of Washoe County Library members is on the Friday before each sale period, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you aren't a member, you can join Friends at the door. The sale is open to all every day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series at the Brewery Arts Center - Saturday, July 10, 2021, 7 p.m. Featuring Jelly Bread and Sal's Greenhouse. These are all free outdoor shows shows. The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open setting. There will be food trucks, drink vendors and kid's activities at every concert. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 449 West King Street at the corner of King and Minnesota Streets in Carson City. The next show is on July 17, featuring Mestizo Beat with opener Drinking With Clowns. Science Saturdays at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, July 10, 2021. Join in on an adventure that is out of this world. Tickets are sold per family group starting at $36. Admission is limited to 8 groups. For participants age 8 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pre-registration is required approximately two days before the event. Call the Museum at (775) 333-9300 for more information. Hands ON! Second Saturday at the Nevada Museum of Art - Saturday, July 10, 2021. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for fun for the whole family, including storytelling, art activities, live performances, and all current exhibits. Admission to the Museum is free for all on Second Saturday and advance admission tickets are no longer required. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 3rd Thursday in downtown Sparks - Thursday, July 15, 2021, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Come to Victorian Square every third Thursday of the month for food trucks, local artists, and City of Sparks Art Walk. Tour the museum, train and schoolhouse for free. Lots more. Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival - July 17 - August 22, 2021. Come to Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe to enjoy Shakespeare performances and other entertainment. These shows are held in what's been called America's most beautiful venue. Annual Art Paws - Sunday, July 18, 2021, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Art Paws is Artown's only event specially for pets (i.e., dogs) and their people. The event is free and will be held at the McKinley Arts & Culture Center. Pride in the Plaza - Thursday, July 22, 2021, 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The free event will feature music, food trucks, performances, a costume contest, and the return of the Rocky Horror Picture Show. The movie screening will begin at 8:45 p.m. Bring a chair, a blanket, and some toast. The event will be at City Plaza, 30 N. Virginia Street in Reno. Northern Nevada Pride Parade and Festival - Saturday, July 24, 2021. The parade begins at 10 a.m. and will travel from Fifth and Virginia Streets to Island Drive. The festival will be at Wingfield Park with entertainment on two stages from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is a $5 donation. Everyone is invited. Proceeds benefit the local LGBT community center. Great Victorian Craft Fair - Saturday and Sunday, July 24 - 25, 2021. The Great Victorian Craft Fair will feature 100 handmade arts & crafts vendors, handmade gourmet food items, live music, and fun for the whole family. At Victorian Square in downtown Sparks. 10 a.m. to 5 pm. on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. 1st Annual National Automobile Museum Golf Classic - Monday, July 26, 2021. The National Automobile Museum and Hot August Nights are proud to partner for our 1st Annual Golf Classic at Redhawk Golf and Resort in Sparks. This is a fundraising event for the National Automobile Museum. The events and activities planned will provide an all-inclusive, entertaining atmosphere, along with the backdrop of an amazing collection of automobiles. Tickets are available online. Hot August Nights Kickoff in Virginia City - Friday and Saturday, July 30 - 31, 2021. Celebrate Hot August Nights in this historic mining town just outside of Reno with cruising events, live entertainment, poker walk fun and more. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Cruising will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Classic Tahoe Festival - July 30 to August 14, 2021. Each summer, Classical Tahoe brings together America's leading classical musicians for a three-week festival of orchestra concerts on the campus of Sierra Nevada University in Incline Village, Nev. Individual and season tickets are available online. Summer Concerts from Reno Jazz Orchestra - Friday, July 30, 2021, 7:30 p.m. The Reno Jazz Orchestra heats up summer as they present: Now, Then, and Forever – Celebrating Earth, Wind, & Fire. Enjoy the sounds of soul, funk, gospel, and greatest hits such as Shining Star, In the Stone, After the Love Has Gone, as well as some of their jazz-inspired instrumentals like Zanzibar. At the Hawkins Amphitheater in Bartley Ranch Regional Park. Tickets are available online. This show repeats at Lake Tahoe's Sand Harbor on Monday, August 2, 2021 at 7:30 p.m. Special Story Time with the Governor - Friday, July 30, 2021, 1:15 p.m. Washoe County Library System is partnering with the State of Nevada to host Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak for a special in-person story time event. This event will be held in the Children'’s Department of the Downtown Reno Library at 301 S. Center Street in Reno. The event is to encourage participation in the community-wide 2021 Summer Reading Challenge. Event attendance is limited to parents and caregivers with children. 2021 Back to School Vaccination Events - Saturday, July 31, 2021, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Washoe County Health District – Immunization Program, Community Health Alliance (CHA) and Immunize Nevada are hosting three Back To School Vaccination events. Insurance is not required. The immunizations are required for students at Washoe County schools diseases. The vaccines, which include DTap/DT, IPV, MMR and more, will be available at the Health District, 1001 E. 9th St., Building B lobby. Immunizations will be administered in private patient rooms inside the clinic. COVID-19 vaccines will also be available for anyone 12 years and older. Appointments are not required but encouraged, and can be made online, or call 775-328-2402. Galena Campfire Program Series - Surprise Guest Presenter: 26th President of the United States - Friday, July 30, 2021, 8:30 p.m. A different presenter is featured each week, including bluegrass, folk music, cowboy poetry and ukulele, plus fun educational programs, all taking place outdoors at beautiful Galena Creek Regional Park. Blankets, low-back chairs, bug spray and flashlights are recommended. The programs are free, though donations are welcomed to support the program. Bring your own treats to enjoy around the campfire at 8 p.m. Eagle Meadow, Galena Creek Regional Park, North Entrance, 18250 Mt Rose Hwy., Reno.
