The Polar Express™ on the V&T Railroad

November 15 through December 24, 2019. Riding The Polar Express™ to the North Pole has become a popular family outing during the Christmas holiday season in the Reno / Tahoe area. Transportation to visit Santa's legendary workshop is provided on trains of the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, departing on select dates from the Eastgate Depot near Carson City. If you want to do this, get tickets ASAP as this attraction usually sells out.

Candy Cane Express on the V&T Railroad in Virginia City

November 29 - 30 and December 7, 8, 14, 15, 2019. Two departures each day at 12 noon and 2 p.m. The Candy Cane Express departs from the Virginia and Truckee Railroad Depot in Virginia City and travels for 50 minutes over the 140-year old route, including the Candy Cane Tunnel. Sip hot cocoa or hot cider and enjoy cookies and candy canes while singing carols, and listening to the 1832 classic "T'was the Night Before Christmas." Enjoy the mountains, the scenery and the children's excitement. Tickets are $23 for those over 12, $12 for kids ages 2 to 11. Children under 2 are free if sitting on a lap. Santa Trains at the Nevada State Railroad Museum

Saturday and Sunday, December 7 - 8, 14 - 15, 21 - 22, 2019. Come ride the festive steam train during the Christmas holiday season at the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City. You can visit with Santa aboard the train and write a letter to Santa at the "Letters to Santa" table. Buy raffle tickets supporting the Friends of the Nevada State Railroad Museum to win great prizes. Tickets are $5 for all riders; children 2 and under who sit in an adult's lap are free. No reservations needed, but you can purchase advance tickets online. Santa Trains will run every half hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

More Santa Christmas Holiday Trains

Santa Trains at the Western Pacific Railroad Museum in Portola

Fridays and Saturdays, December 7, 13 - 14 and 20 - 21, 2019. The museum opens at 4 p.m. and Santa trains will run from 5 p.m. to about 8 p.m., or until everyone gets a ride. Admission is $10 per carload, or $5 per carload with a donation of at least 3 non-perishable food items for the local food bank. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there, plus special exhibits and local vendors. Passengers can enjoy free coffee, hot chocolate, cider, and cookies. Except for the Santa trains, the museum is closed for the winter. For more information, call (530) 832-4131. The Western Pacific Railroad Museum is located at 700 Western Pacific Way in Portola, CA, about an hour north of Reno.

Santa's Reindeer Flyer on the Nevada Northern Railway in Ely

November 23, 29, 30, and December 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 2019. This magical family adventure travels to see, meet, and ride with Santa at the North Pole. Along the way we will meet a lively bunch of Santa's helpers, including Santa's elves. We will all be served hot chocolate and cookies while singing along with all of the holiday favorites that we know and love. Everyone will experience that magic moment when the train arrives at the North Pole, where Santa Claus himself will join us. Santa will board the train and personally present each child their own special gift so they can always remember the sprit of Christmas, and their Christmas train ride on Santa's Reindeer Flyer. Tickets are $41 for adults, $20 for kids ages 4 to 12, and free for children under 4. Visit the web page for train ride dates, times, and to get tickets online.
