"Edible Traditions" columnist Sharon Honig-Bear has fashioned a presentation based on her past four years of columns in edibleRenoTahoe magazine, with new images never published in the magazine. This is a virtual presentation via Zoom. Presented by Sharon Honig-Bear, former restaurant columnist for the Reno Gazette-Journal and now a columnist for edibleRenoTahoe magazine. Register on the website for Zoom connection information. Free Ranger Walks from Washoe County Parks - Saturdays, November 7 and 14, 2020. Join Washoe County park rangers to explore some of the Reno area's most scenic areas. The first walk is at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and the second is on the Lockwood Trail. Both start at 10 a.m. and require pre-registration. Wolf Pack Football - Saturday, November 7, 2020. The Nevada Wolf Pack football team takes on the Utah State Aggies at Mackay Stadium in Reno. Kickoff is 4 p.m. Go Pack! "Dare We Dance?" livestream concert from the Reno Philharmonic - Saturday and Sunday, November 7 - 8, 2020. Prepare for seduction and entrancement as the Reno Phil dares to dance on the stage of the Pioneer Center. The performance will be infused with motion as dancer Martina Young joins the orchestra for Saint-Saëns' The Swan, featuring Principal Cellist Peter Lenz. Streaming starts at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday. Visit the website for online tickets, which are $20 per household (one viewing device). "It Can't Happen Here" - through November 8, 2020. Join Bruka Theatre, in partnership with Berkeley Rep, in a new radio play of Sinclair Lewis' IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE starring Oscar nominee David Strathairn. This satirical play follows the ascent of a demagogue who becomes president of the US. Listen via YouTube. Veterans Day Celebration - Wednesday, November 11, 2020. There will be no Veterans Day Parade in 2020. In its place will be a virtual Veterans Day Celebration. The event will be broadcast starting at 11:11 a.m. on the City of Reno's Facebook page. Sciencecast televised fundraiser for The Discovery - Saturday, November 14, 2020, 7 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Watch on KRNV News 4, or set your DVR, for a very special night of exciting science demonstrations, celebrity guest performances, exclusive sneak peeks of The Discovery's future exhibitions, and opportunities to help ensure The Discovery will continue delivering engaging, hands-on science education for all members of our community for years to come. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for a day of fun family activities and free admission for all. Participate in hands-on art projects and storytelling. To attend, you must register in advance for the date and time slot you prefer. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. You can extend the experience with Hands ON! at Home. Science Saturdays at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, November 14, 2020, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Join in on the adventures that are out of this world, with "Eating in Space." Admission is $12 per person for children and adults, which also includes admission to the Museum. For participants age 8 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is required approximately two days before the event. Call the Museum at (775) 333-9300 for more information. Wolf Pack Football - Saturday, November 14, 2020. The Nevada Wolf Pack football team takes on the New Mexico Lobos in Las Vegas, NV. Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. Go Pack! Washoe County Library Book Sale - Canceled. November 14 - 22, 2020. Sales are in the book store next door to the Sierra View Library in the Reno Town Mall. This is your chance to get big bargains on books and other media while supporting your Washoe County Library System. Sale hours are every day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Preview day for Friends members is on the Friday before each sale period, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you aren't a member, you can join Friends at the door. Masks required and temperatures will be taken at the door. Maximum of 30 people allowed in the store at a time. 2020 Polar Express on the V&T Railroad - There will be no Polar Express train rides in 2020 due to COVID-19. However, Santa's Drive-Thru Village will set up shop to bring the North Pole to life at the Eastgate Depot near Carson City. It will be open December 11 - 13 and 18 - 24, 2020, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The fare is $20 per vehicle. Get tickets online or reserve by calling 877-724-5007. Sky Tavern Ski Swap - Friday and Saturday, November 20 - 21, 2020. The swap will be at the former Sports Authority store, 4813 Kietzke Lane in Reno. New and used winter gear will be for sale at great prices - skis, boards, boots and clothes. Individual sellers can bring in gear to sell on November 19 and 20. The swap will be open to the public from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. On Friday night food trucks will be there and they will have a bounce house and games for kids. There are lots of things to do on Thanksgiving Day and throughout the Thanksgiving weekend. Dining Out on Thanksgiving Day - Thursday, November 26, 2020. Reno area hotel/casinos and some restaurants put on big spreads for Thanksgiving dinner. Look these over if eating out sounds better than cooking all day and then cleaning up. Wolf Pack Football - Saturday, November 28, 2020. The Nevada Wolf Pack football team takes on the Hawai'i Rainbow Warriors at Manoa, HI. Kickoff is 8 p.m. Go Pack! Shop Small - Forget the Black Friday shopping frenzy after Thanksgiving. Use your shopping time and dollars to support locally owned businesses in the Reno area - keep your money here in the Truckee Meadows to improve our own economy and support your friends and neighbors rather than faceless corporations sucking money out of Nevada.
