Summer Camps for Kids - Summer camps are starting. For the best choice and pricing, now is the time to get your kids signed up for the camps and activities they will enjoy during summer vacation.

2023 Summer Reading Challenge - June 1 through July 31, 2023. This year's theme is "All Together Now." Washoe County Library uses Beanstack for all our reading challenges. Visit our Beanstack page to create an account online. If you previously created an account, you may sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge beginning May 15. To help keep track of your reading between logins, pick up a paper bingo challenge log from any Washoe County Library branch or download one from the webpage. For other fun free stuff going on at the libraries, refer to "Free Events and Programs at Washoe County Libraries."

Nevada State Fair - Thursday through Sunday, June 1 - 4, 2023. The Nevada State Fair will be held at Mills Park in the Nevada state capital of Carson City. Family friendly as always, the event will have all the fun things to do fair goers have come to expect, from a midway carnival and rides to livestock and lots of entertainment. Fairgrounds entry and parking are free.

Programs on the Porch at Bowers Mansion - Friday, June 2, 2023, 7 p.m. This year's presentations are the "Wildlife Edition," featuring a variety of wildlife professionals. The theme today is snakes. Bowers Mansion is located at 4005 U.S. Highway 395 North in Washoe Valley. Bring a blanket or low-back chair. Presentations are free, with donations accepted and appreciated. There are three more shows in the 2023 series; bats on June 9, bees on June 16, and bobcats and mountain lions on June 23.

Food Truck Friday - Reno Street Food - opening Friday, June 2, 2023. Come to Reno's Idlewild Park for an evening of fun, music, and lots of good things to eat and drink from Reno's fleet of food trucks. It's free to come enjoy the park from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., but the food and drink are for sale. Reno Street Food will be every Friday through August 25, 2023. No Dogs. Go to "Food Trucks and Food Truck Events in Reno and Sparks" for information about more food truck events.

Nevada Field Day & Ag Expo - Friday, June 2, 2023, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. At Nevada Field Day & Ag Expo, UNR will bring a variety of its research and work done throughout the state to its Valley Road Field Lab and Greenhouse Complex in Reno at 1000 Valley Road, where visitors will be treated to hands-on activities, wine tasting, a farm stand, a plant sale, demonstrations, giveaways, and tours and exhibits featuring University research. Free admission and parking. NO PETS.

Truckee Meadows Trail Days - Saturday, June 3, 2023, 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Trail Days will consist of light maintenance of trails throughout the Truckee Meadows. Today the site is the Thomas Creek Trailhead off Timberline Dr. in south Reno. Training, tools and helmets will be provided. Future dates are September 23 and October 14. Sponsored by Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation. Volunteers needed - register here.

Washoe County Library Booksale - June 3 - 11, 2023. Book sales are a function of Friends of Washoe County Library. Sales are in the mall space next door to the Sierra View Library in the Reno Town Mall. Preview day for Friends members is on the Friday before each sale period, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you aren't a member, you can join Friends at the door. The sale is open to all every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Half-price (except specially priced books) day is the last Saturday of the sale. The final Sunday of the sale period is $5 bag day. Sales are cash or check only - credit cards are not accepted. The book sales feature a large selection of books, DVDs, CDs, and VHS tapes at bargain prices.

2023 Reno/Sparks Walk to Defeat ALS - Saturday, June 3, 2023. Check-in at 10:30 a.m., walk start at 12 noon. This year, it's at Sparks Marina Park. All walk routes are wheelchair accessible and Walk Day activities include something for all ages. There is no fee to participate.

Reno-Tahoe Odyssey - Friday and Saturday, June 2 - 3, 2023. Besides the main relay run that goes up to Lake Tahoe, there are two other runs involved - the Capital Odyssey and the Comstock Odyssey. How all this works is a bit complicated, so visit the website for all the details on how to participate.

Street Vibrations Spring Rally - Friday through Sunday, June 2 - 4, 2023. The annual event will feature live entertainment, bike games, competition ride-in shows, poker run, dozens of vendor booths, and participant parties for registrants. The event is open and free to the public and will be centered on Reno's Neon Line. Virginia City will host a poker walk, live entertainment, VIP bike parking and more. Reno Harley-Davidson and Battleborn Harley-Davidson will host open houses and special promotions.

National Trails Day - Saturday, June 3, 2023. National Trails Day recognizes the incredible benefits of federal, state and local trails. Events held throughout the United States encourage people to discover their local trails and share their excitement for the outdoors. Locally, Friends of Black Rock High Rock are sponsoring a trail building/improvement weekend at Steven's Camp, a remote location in the Black Rock National Conservation Area.

Closer to home - Join Washoe County Parks, Biggest Little Trail Stewardship, and Truckee Meadows Trails for 2023 TMT Trail Days at Whites Creek Trail on June 3, 2023. TMT Trail Days will consist of light maintenance of trails throughout the Truckee Meadows. Training, tools and helmets will be provided. Preregistration required.

Jazz Workshop and Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra in Concert - Saturday and Sunday, June 3 - 4, 2023, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Reno Jazz Orchestra presents two elite performances of the 2023 Jazz Workshop and Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra in concert in Reno. Performances at Good Luck Macbeth Theater in Reno. Tickets are available online.

Mark Wellman's Adventure Day and Abilities Expo at Sparks Marina - Sunday, June 4, 2023, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A variety of adaptive sports will be featured at the free annual Mark Wellman's Adventure Day event at the Sparks Marina Park. People with disabilities and their friends and families are invited to try out hand-cycling, kayaking and rock climbing through the use of a broad range of adaptive equipment. Additionally, access to information and resources from a variety of community organizations such as Arts for All, Nevada, Nevada Center for Excellence in Disabilities, and Nevada Disability Advocacy and Law Center, to name a few, will be available.

Reno Food & Drink Week - Monday to Friday, June 5 - 16, 2023. Come dine at dozens of food and drink establishments (including breweries and distilleries) in Reno, Sparks and elsewhere in Northern Nevada. For Reno Food & Drink Week, each establishment is serving a special cocktail, signature dish, prix fixe menu, tasting flight or something else.

Reno Aces Baseball - Tuesday, June 6, 2023. June's first homestand begins with six games against Tacoma at Greater Nevada Field, followed by six games vs. the Albuquerque Isotopes from June 20 to 25.

Guided Walking Tours from HRPS - Tuesday, June 6, 2023, 6 p.m. Presented by Historic Reno Preservation Society, tours are open to the public. These walks are for you if you want to know more about Reno's colorful past and the remnants that remain scattered throughout the city. Today's tour covers the Upper Ralston area. Come Fish with Rebecca - Thursday, June 8, 2023. Sparks Rotary Club invites all adaptive youth to Sparks Marina for a fun day of fishing with Rebecca. It's from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fishing gear will be provided and fishing coaches will be there to help kids catch fish.

Social Science: Cowboys & Aliens - Saturday, June 10, 2023, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Come to The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum and saddle up to explore the original and the final frontier all in one exciting night. Get hands-on with science and fun inspired by the wild west and galaxies far, far away. Conquer a buckin' bronc, play with alien slime, test your ranch hand skills, and more. Social Science is The Discovery's popular adults-only, brain building event series. It is recommended that you buy tickets online in advance.

Free Fishing Day in Nevada - Saturday, June 10, 2023. During the annual Free Fishing Day, anglers may fish in any public fishing water in the state without needing a fishing license or trout stamp. All limits and other regulations apply. Locally, Sparks Rotary Club is sponsoring a free fishing day at Sparks Marina, plus other fun activities. It's from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. All kids are invited and fishing gear will be provided.

Public Swimming Pools and Water Play Places - Many opening in June. Check out all of the water fun available in Reno, Sparks, and other places in Washoe County. When the heat's on, head for the water.

Discover Your Parks Series - through November 4, 2023. Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is leading Discover Your Parks Series in different parks located in Washoe County. This is a free program of all-ages events that aims to engage and uplift the community through arts, education and recreation in our local parks. Capacity is limited and you must register online from the website for each program. The series is open to all, but capacity is limited - register online from the website for each walk. Reno River Festival - Friday through Sunday, June 9 - 11, 2023. The annual Reno River Festival is at Wingfield Park in downtown Reno. This event has become one of the top draws among Reno's big spring, summer, and fall events. There will be no whitewater kayaking competitions this year for various reasons, but there is much more. Attractions include live music, local craft beer, local food, local craft vendors, the Reno River Roll, a cornhole championship contest, the Great Reno River Rally, plus the thrills of the Reno Tahoe Adventure Park. General admission is $10 for all three days. Kids 17 and under are free.

2023 Reno Margarita Day Crawl - Saturday, June 10, 2023, 12 noon to 6 p.m. Margarita Day will be a chance to soak up some rays in a relaxed atmosphere where we can all enjoy some good bubbly, listen to some tunes and stroll around hitting our favorite bars. Get cups ahead of time online for $10. Over 10 participating establishments. Visit the website for more details and to buy cups online.

Hands ON! Second Saturday at the Nevada Museum of Art - Saturday, June 10, 2023. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for fun for the whole family, including storytelling, art activities, live performances, and all current exhibits. Admission to the Museum is free for all on Second Saturdays.

Kids Free Fishing Day - Saturday, June 10, 2023, 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Kids Free Fishing Day is at Sparks Marina Park. The Rotary Club of Sparks provides necessry fishing gear for free and coaching needed to help kids have a fun day fishing at Sparks Marina. Attendees are not required to have a fishing license on this special day. There will also be additional activities. The Club will also host a Special Needs Kids Free Fishing Day on June 8.

Discover Nevada State Parks Day - Saturday, June 10, 2023. Free day-use admission and free fishing at all Nevada State Parks. This statewide event encourages Nevadans to discover the many exciting and affordable recreation opportunities right in their own backyards. Discover Nevada State Parks Day is also an opportunity for visitors to take the passport challenge and add a stamp to their passport booklet or to pick one up while visiting any state park.

Walks with Washoe County Park Rangers - Sunday, June 11, 2023, 10 a.m. Washoe County park rangers lead these outings at locations around the county. Walks are at various times and days and are free and open to the public. Pre-registration required. This hike is on the Pah Rah Interpretive Trail at Golden Eagle Regional Park. The next outing is the "N" Trail Challenge Hike on June 25, and after that at Davis Creek Regional Park on June 27.

Downtown Tuesdays - Tuesday, June 13, 2023, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Join us at Partnership Plaza at 40 E. Fourth Street for a regular series of music, food trucks and vendors at Downtown Tuesdays. Enjoy music, food, drinks, yard games, a great atmosphere and more. Additional dates are July 11, August 15, September 12, 2023. Admission is free.

Summer Music Series at Lazy 5 Regional Park - Wednesday, June 14, 2023. New Wave Crave is the first concert of the 2023 series. Other concerts with a variety of entertainers will follow on Wednesday evenings through August 16. Concerts are free and begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring the family and a picnic to enjoy the show. No pets, smoking, vaping or glass containers allowed. Lazy 5 Regional Park is at 7100 Pyramid Way out in Spanish Springs.

Flag Day - Wednesday, June 14, 2023. Flag Day is a celebration of the American flag that occurs each year on the anniversary of the flag's official adoption, June 14.

Quilt Show Reno - Thursday through Saturday, June 15 - 17, 2023. Quilt Show Reno includes a large vendor mall, workshops, lectures, make-it-take-it projects, free stage venues, demonstrations and presentations. At the Grand Sierra Resort, 2500 E. 2nd St. in Reno. Free parking. Hours 10 a.m. 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Annual BBQ, Brews & Blues Festival - Friday and Saturday, June 16 - 17, 2023. Come sample the tastiest BBQ around. Sip on brew from over 50 microbreweries. Enjoy free live entertainment in downtown Reno. Friday 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 12 noon to 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visit the website for more information and to buy tickets online. 21+ event.

Reno Rodeo - Thursday through Saturday, June 15 - 24, 2023. The Reno Rodeo is a huge event with lots of activities and things to do for the whole family in addition to the rodeo itself. You don't need to be a buckaroo to enjoy the fun and action at the "Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West." This year marks the 104th anniversary of the Reno Rodeo.

Debauch-A-Reno - Friday through Sunday, June 16 - 18, 2023. We're celebrating the Sticker Guy! 30th Anniversary in budget-rock style – in June in Reno with THE MUMMIES, THE KIDS, THE ZEROS, DEADBOLT, and many more – plus disc jocks from all over, a record fair and other surprises. Tickets for June events will be sold as weekend passes: for all events (including the parties at Cypress), or only for the daytime events at the park. Visit the website for all the details. Reno Wine Walk - Saturday, June 17, 2023, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. Buy tickets online or visit one of the start locations with $30 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area. Junior Naturalist Program from Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation - Saturday, June 17, 2023, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. This month we'll become "Forestry Heroes" at Mary Gojack Park (off Skyline Blvd. in southwest Reno). Junior Naturalists will explore managing the forest, protecting the forest, and life in the forest. This outdoor program is for kids of all ages and it's free. You can register online.

35th Annual Juneteenth Celebration - Saturday and Sunday, June 17 - 18, 2023, 12 noon to 9 p.m. Juneteenth (June 19) is the day African-Americans celebrate their independence. The Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society (NNBCAS) invites the entire community to join this 3-part celebration, which includes performers (singers, dancers, bands, musicians, rappers, spoken word), vendors, food trucks and more. The event will be at Idlewild Park in Reno.

Father's Day - Sunday, June 18, 2023. There are lots of fun things you can do to treat your Dad on his special day.

First Day of Summer - Wednesday, June 21, 2023.

Gardening Week at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park - Wednesday through Friday, June 21 - 23, 2023, 9 a.m. to 12 noon. These programs are in the Discovery Room at Rancho San Rafael Park in Reno. Wednesday features a garden art craft. Thursday is a tour of the community garden and Friday is story time. Children and families of all ages are welcome at these free activities.

"Disney in Concert: A Dream is a Wish" at the Pioneer Center - Saturday, June 24, 2023, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Disney’s A Dream is a Wish features four Broadway caliber vocalists, clips from iconic Disney movies including Frozen, The Little Mermaid, Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Princess and the Frog, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Aladdin, and some of the best known film in music cinematic history. Carpe Diem Fishing Derby - Saturday, June 24, 2023, 8 a.m. to 12 noon. In collaboration with the restoration efforts of Rosewood Nature Study Area's natural wetlands, Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is hosting the second annual Carpe Diem Fishing Derby. This annual fishing derby is a great way to gather the community, fish, engage in an exciting tournament with prizes, participate in fun educational activities, and remove invasive species from the local wetlands. Participation is free, but you need to register online. No dogs.

Wild Tahoe Weekend at Taylor Creek Visitor Center - Saturday and Sunday, June 24 - 25, 2023, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is free to attend, and includes the Lake Tahoe Bird Festival (June 24) and the Native Species Festival (June 25). Join environmental groups and agencies at Taylor Creek Visitor Center in celebrating the flora and fauna of the Lake Tahoe Basin. Festivities include guided bird walks, presentations by wildlife experts, live music, kids crafts, games and more.

"Dino Days" at The Discovery Museum - June 24 through July 2, 2023. In celebration of The Discovery's newest fossilized friend, the museum will host "Dino Days," a roaring rendezvous full of dinosaur-themed programming. All activities are free for members and included with museum admission for nonmembers. The Discovery is at 490 S. Center Street in Reno.

San Francisco Yiddish Combo at Temple Emanu-El in Reno - Wednesday, June 28, 2023, 7 p.m. Join us for this unique opportunity - a live performance of Klezmer music by the acclaimed San Francisco Yiddish Combo. Admission is free; donations welcomed but space is limited. Reservations are required. RSVP on the website or call 775-825-5600.

2023 Galena Campfire Programs - every Friday June 30 to August 4, 2023, 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Join Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space for a fun family program around the campfire. Each week will feature a different presenter for kids of all ages to enjoy. The program today features cowboy entertainer Larry Maurice. Bring the family out early for a picnic. Treats will be available to enjoy around the campfire starting at 7:30 p.m. The program starts at 8 p.m. Eagle Meadow is located inside the north entrance to Galena Creek Regional Park at 18250 Mt. Rose Highway (Galena Creek Visitor Center entrance). The programs are free, but donations are welcome to help fund the program.

Dragon Lights Reno - June 30 through August 13, 2023. Dragon Lights Reno will again illuminate the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Gardens in Rancho San Rafael Park with all new lantern displays. Forty-two larger-than-life lantern sculptures, lit by thousands of LED lights, will transform the arboretum into a luminous wonderland during mid-summer nights. New themes celebrate Asian culture and biodiversity in the garden. Our iconic Chinese dragon will be returning in a whole new form while the rest of the garden will be occupied by glowing mini beasts – dragonflies, beetles, mantis, bees and many more. The interactive playground area has been expanded due to popular demand. Inside the arboretum, visitors can also enjoy a Lantern Food Court that offers a wide selection of food and drinks from both local and traveling food vendors. It is best to purchase tickets online ahead of time. Tickets at the box office may not be available on any night that the festival reaches capacity. Be sure to visit the website for more details about the event and obtaining tickets.

Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival - June 30 - August 20, 2023. Come to Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe to enjoy Shakespeare performances and other entertainment.
