Big events during July, 2022 include...

Artown Opening Night - Friday, July 1, 2022. Come to Wingfield Park for the start to Artown, which lasts the whole month of July. The featured act on opening night is The Evolution of Cliff Porter. This is just the beginning of Artown, with things to do, see and enjoy through July 31.

Dragon Lights Reno - July 1 through August 12, 2022. Dragon Lights Reno will again illuminate the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Gardens in Rancho San Rafael Park with all new lantern displays. Forty-two larger-than-life lantern sculptures, lit by thousands of LED lights, will transform the arboretum into a luminous wonderland during mid-summer nights. New at Dragon Lights Reno this year is an interactive playground with lantern displays that visitors can touch, play with, and even sit on. Inside the arboretum, visitors can also find a new Lantern Food Court that offers a wide selection of food and drinks from both local and traveling food vendors. It is best to purchase tickets online ahead of time. Tickets at the box office may not be available on any night that the festival reaches capacity. Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival - July 1 - August 21, 2022. Come to Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe to enjoy Shakespeare performances and other entertainment. These shows are held in what's been called America's most beautiful venue. Visit my article for details about tickets, seating, getting to Sand Harbor and other important information.

The Great Western Steam Up - July 1 - 4, 2022. Begins at 8 a.m. each day. Celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the completion of Nevada's famous Virginia & Truckee Railroad with an exciting pageant of steam locomotion, train rides, food, live entertainment, "lost art" demonstrations and more. Fun for families and railroad enthusiasts. Over 10 operating steam locomotives representing six historic Nevada railroads and lots more. At the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City. Nitro Circus - Good, Bad & Rad - Friday, July 1, 2022, 7 p.m. For nearly two decades, Nitro Circus has been defined by the good, the bad, and the rad. This wild crew of action sports heroes has stunned crowds across the globe with an incandescent mix of world's first tricks, bone-crushing fails and comedic moments. Nitro Circus will be at Greater Nevada Field (home of the Reno Aces). Gates open at 6 p.m. Tickets are available online.

Galena Campfire Program Series - Raptors! Featuring Falconer Marie Gaspari-Crawford - Friday, July 1, 2022, 7:30 p.m. Remember the fun had around the campfire as a kid? The Galena Campfire Program Series is all about sharing that experience with the family. A different presenter is featured each week, including a variety of cultural music experiences, plus fun educational programs and marshmallow roasting. Blankets, low-back chairs, bug spray and flashlights are recommended. The programs are free, though donations are welcomed to support the program. Treats to enjoy around the campfire at 8 p.m. will be available. Every Friday through August 5, 2022. At Eagle Meadow, Galena Creek Regional Park, North Entrance, 18250 Mt. Rose Hwy., Reno.

4th of July - A Patriotic Salute from Reno Jazz Orchestra - Monday, July 4. 2022, 7:30 p.m. Join the RJO and celebrate America's birthday with a festive night filled with your favorite patriotic music and songs performed by Northern Nevada’s finest jazz musicians. This free concert is at Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater in Bartley Ranch Regional Park in Reno.

Great American Craft Fair - Saturday through Monday, July 2 - 4, 2022, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More that 100 handmade fine art and craft vendors. There will be Food Trucks in the Park and the Great American Parade. Free admission. At McKinley Arts and Culture Center, 925 Riverside Dr. in Reno.

Guided Walking Tours from HRPS - Saturday, July 2, 2022. The first guided walking tour in July from the Historic Reno Preservation Society will be "Movie Footprints in Reno" at 9 a.m. Several more walks are scheduled for Tuesdays and Saturdays in July. Join in to learn about many aspects of Reno's colorful history.

Levitt AMP Carson City 2022 at the Brewery Arts Center - Saturday, July 2, 2022, 7 p.m. Featuring international music star and humanitarian activist Rocky Dawuni. These are all free outdoor concerts. The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open setting. There will be food trucks, drink vendors and kid's activities at every concert. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 449 West King Street at the corner of King and Minnesota Streets in Carson City. The next show is on July 9, featuring the Young Dubliners with opening act Six Mile Station. Concerts continue through August 27, 2022.

4th of July Fireworks and Celebrations - Monday, July 4, 2022. Most big fireworks shows are back for 2022, plus other 4th of July activities going on around the area.

July Fourth with the Reno Phil - American Salute - Monday, July 4, 2022, 7:30 p.m. In celebration with Artown, the Reno Phil Orchestra, Chorus, and conductor Jason Altieri return to Wingfield Park to celebrate Independence day with a patriotic concert and fireworks finale. This family friendly performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will end with a fantastic firework finale. This is a free concert. Food and drink trucks will be in attendance. The park opens at 5:30 p.m. No glass or pets.

Reno Aces Baseball - July 4, 2022, 6:35 p.m. The Aces take on the Tacoma Rainiers for this Independence Day game, capped off with a fireworks spectacular. More games vs. the Rainiers are July 6 - 10, with fireworks following the game on July 8.

American Century Championship - Wednesday through Sunday, July 6 - 10, 2022. The 33rd annual American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament will be at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course near South Lake Tahoe and Stateline. Players have been Charles Barkley, Larry the Cable Guy, Roger Clemens, John Elway, Andre Iguodala, Heather LeMaster, Dan Quayle, Bret Saberhagen, Joe Theismann, Michael Waltrip, and many, many more. Tickets are on sale now.

Summer Music Series at Lazy 5 Regional Park - Wednesday, July 6, 2022. Today's show is by Boot Juice. Other concerts with a variety of entertainers will follow on Wednesday evenings through August 17. Concerts are free and begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring the family and a picnic to enjoy the show. No pets, smoking or glass containers allowed. Lazy 5 Regional Park is at 7100 Pyramid Way out in Spanish Springs.

Discover Your Parks Walks - Thursday, July 7, 2022, 6 p.m. Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is leading free walks in different parks located in Washoe County from April through September, 2022. This first July walk will be at Lazy 5 Regional Park. Others will be on July 14, 21, and 28.

Summer Concert Series at The Glow Plaza - Friday and Saturday, July 8 - 9, 2022, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Join us at The Glow Plaza every Friday and Saturday for our free outdoor concert series. We've booked a spectrum in varying styles of music, so there's sure to be something for everyone. The first show is the Jason King Band. Weekend shows continue through September 3, 2022. The Glow Plaza is next to Reno's Sands Regency, 345 N. Arlington Avenue.

Reno Comic Crawl - Saturday, July 9, 2022, 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. The Reno Comic-Crawl (formerly Superhero Crawl) is the longest running barcrawl of its theme. Participants enjoy over 100 different drink specials at more than 13 bars, restaurants and clubs throughout downtown Reno along with specials on food, costume contests, giveaways and free cover in nightclubs and resorts. Crawl cups are $10 ($7 till June 24) and can be purchased online.

Hands ON! Second Saturday at the Nevada Museum of Art - Saturday, July 9, 2022. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for fun for the whole family, including storytelling, art activities, live performances, and all current exhibits. Admission to the Museum is free for all on Second Saturday and advance admission tickets are no longer required. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Lavender Day - Saturday, July 9, 2022, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy the scent of lavender, demonstrations on planting, harvesting, and infusing with lavender and other mini-presentations. Artists, music, refreshments and vendors will be available. Presented by the May Arboretum Society. At the May Arboretum in Rancho San Rafael Park.

Sierra Nevada Lavender & Honey Festival - Sunday, July 10, 2022, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This "scent-sational" event features all things lavender and honey along with arts and crafts, food, demonstrations, music, entertainment and more. At Victorian Square in Sparks.

Walks with Washoe County Park Rangers - Sunday, July 10, 2022, 10 a.m. This walk is on Evans Creek Trail in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. It's free to participate. Discover new trails and learn more about your local environment in various Washoe County parks and open space habitats. Visit the website to preregister. The remaining 2022 walks are on July 26, August 14 and August 23.

Barracuda Championship PGA Golf - Thursday through Sunday, July 14 - 17, 2022. Enjoy Reno's PGA golf tournament, the only one in northern California / Nevada. The tournament is played at Tahoe Mountain Club's Old Greenwood Golf Course in Truckee, CA. This is a charity event with live television coverage on the Golf Channel. Tickets are available online.

Classical Tahoe 2022 - July 14 - August 18, 2022. Classical Tahoe brings together America's leading classical musicians from the MET Orchestra, LA Phil, Cleveland Orchestra, and symphonies of San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Seattle, Toronto, Vancouver, NY City Ballet, SF Ballet, SF Opera and more. This 16-concert series delights audiences with its superb musicians, intimate al fresco pavilions, educational programs, and majestic Lake Tahoe settings. Annual Art Paws - Sunday, July 17, 2022, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Art Paws is Artown's only event specially for pets (i.e., dogs) and their people. The event is free and will be held at the McKinley Arts & Culture Center, 925 Riverside Drive in Reno. Food and beverage available.

Night in the Country Music Festival - Thursday through Saturday, July 21 - 23, 2022. Nevada's longest running country music festival is held in Yerington. This year, the festival will bring in big-name artists with Tracy Lawrence, Dustin Lynch, Chris Young and lots more. The main stage will feature several acts each night. There is on-site camping and lots of other activities. (775) 463-5114.

Northern Nevada Pride Parade and Festival - Saturday, July 23, 2022, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival will be at Wingfield Park with entertainment on two stages from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is a $5 donation. Everyone is invited. Proceeds benefit the local LGBT community center. The parade is free to watch and starts at 10 a.m. It runs down Virginia St. from Fifth St. to Island Dr.

Hot August Nights Kickoff in Virginia City - Friday and Saturday, July 29 - 30, 2022. Celebrate Hot August Nights in this historic mining town just outside of Reno with cruising events, live entertainment, poker walk fun and more. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. Cruising will be from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Biggest Little City Wingfest - Friday and Saturday, July 29 - 30, 2022. Downtown Reno will host the 8th Annual Biggest Little City Wing Fest. More than 20,000 pounds of chicken wings will be slathered in sauce, smoked, fired and grilled to perfection. The competition will be fierce during two days of a sauce show down. This year's event will feature free live entertainment and a craft fair. Along Virginia Street in downtown Reno.

Summer Concerts from Reno Jazz Orchestra - Saturday, July 30, 2022, 7:30 p.m. The Reno Jazz Orchestra presents Hotter Than July - The Music of Stevie Wonder and Tina Turner. Enjoy a sensational night of super-star hits as the Reno Jazz Orchestra presents top-of-the-charts tunes of Tina Turner and Stevie Wonder featuring vocalists Stephanya Barranti and Cliff Porter. At Wingfield Park. This is a free concert. This show repeats at Lake Tahoe's Sand Harbor on Monday, August 1, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. Purchase tickets for the Sand Harbor performance.

Galena Campfire Program Series - Surprise Guest Presenter: 26th President of the United States - Friday, July 30, 2021, 8:30 p.m. A different presenter is featured each week, including bluegrass, folk music, cowboy poetry and ukulele, plus fun educational programs, all taking place outdoors at beautiful Galena Creek Regional Park.
