Happy New Year! - Friday, January 1, 2021. Winter Break Camps and Activities - through January 1, 2021. To keep the kids occupied during winter break, check out the many things happening around the Truckee Meadows. Free history presentations from Historic Reno Preservation Society - Tuesday, January 5, 2021, 5:30 p.m. Learn about Alice Ramsey's journey through Nevada in 1909, as she became the first women to drive across the continental United States. This is a virtual presentation via Zoom. Presented by Debbie Hinman. Second Saturdays at the Nevada Museum of Art - Saturday, January 9, 2021. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for a day of fun for the whole family, including storytelling, art activities, live performances, and all current exhibits. Admission to the Museum is free for all on Second Saturdays, but you must visit the website to obtain advanced admission tickets. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Junior Naturalist Program - Registration opens January 1, 2021. The Junior Naturalist Program is a free, virtual program for children of all ages that brings new outdoor adventures directly to your living room. Join our Naturalist Educators virtually on the third Saturday of every month as they explore plants, animals, and the environment from local parks. Each program involves an hour of educational exploration (live-streamed from the park), hands-on activities for you to complete at home, and a scavenger hunt clue to encourage you to discover the park for yourself. Science Saturdays at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, January 9, 2021. Join in on an adventure that is out of this world - "Training Future Astronauts." Admission is $36 (plus fees) for a family group of up to six. The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required approximately two days before the event. Call the Museum at (775) 333-9300 for more information. Wild & Scenic Film Festival - January 14 - 24, 2021. This year it is a virtual film festival. Visit the website to learn about getting passes and tickets, exploring sessions and tracks, and for help with just how the whole virtual festival experience works. Winter Hike Series from Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation - Saturday, January 16, 2021, 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Get outside this winter and explore some of Reno's local parks at your own pace. Free hot drinks and snacks will be served. For more information or to sign up contact cara@tmparksfoundation.org. Sign ups are encouraged but not required. Other hikes will be at Mira Loma Park on February 20 and Idlewild Park on March 13. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - Monday, January 18, 2021. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is an official national holiday observed across the country, with most federal and local government offices closed for the day. There are celebrations and activities to celebrate the day in the Reno area, plus ways you can volunteer as part of the concurrent Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Free Days at National Parks - The first free day in 2021 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 18. There are several more during 2021. There are many free days on USFS and BLM land as well. Enjoy your public lands and save money while doing it. Fly Ranch Nature Walks with Friends of Black Rock-High Rock - January 16, 23, February 13, 20, March 13, 20, 2021 , 12 noon to 2:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friends of Black Rock-High Rock docent accompany visitors in small groups, exploring Fly Ranch for approximately 2.5 – 3 hours. These walks around a portion of the stunning 3,800-acre property give participants an immersive experience in this dynamic environment. Nature Walks start at the main Ranch gate of Fly Ranch (not the Geyser Gate), near Gerlach, Nevada. The area will be marked with a sign during tours. Details for where to meet will be in your confirmation email. Reno Women's March - Saturday, January 23, 2021, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Women's March is a women-led movement providing intersectional education on a diverse range of issues and creating entry points for new grassroots activists and organizers to engage in their local communities through training, outreach programs and events. Join us this year for a virtual march. Reno-Tahoe Senior Winter Games - No updated information available.
