Big events during August, 2026 include... Artown Closing Night - Playing for Change - Friday, July 31, 2026. Playing For Change was created to inspire and connect the world through music. The free show will be at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Galena Campfire Programs - Tony Argento - Friday, July 31, 2026, 7:30 p.m. Remember the fun had around the campfire as a kid? The Galena Campfire Program Series is all about sharing that experience with the family. A different presenter is featured each week, including a variety of cultural music experiences, plus fun educational programs and marshmallow roasting. Blankets, low-back chairs, bug spray and flashlights are recommended. The programs are free, though donations are welcomed to support the program. Treats to enjoy around the campfire at 7:30 p.m. will be available. Every Friday through August 7, 2026. At Eagle Meadow, Galena Creek Regional Park, North Entrance, 18250 Mt. Rose Hwy., Reno. Hot August Nights Kickoff in Virginia City - Friday and Saturday, July 31 - August 1, 2026. Celebrate Hot August Nights in this historic mining town just outside of Reno with show-n-shine, cruising events, live entertainment, poker walk fun and more. Hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Levitt AMP Carson City Music Series at the Brewery Arts Center - Saturday, August 1, 2026, 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Featuring Van Goat. These are all free outdoor shows. The public is invited to bring their own picnics, blankets and lawn chairs to the concerts, which will have an open setting. There will be food trucks, drink vendors and kid's activities at every concert. The Levitt AMP concert series is located at 449 West King Street at the corner of King and Minnesota Streets in Carson City. Summer Breeze: Yacht Rock Classics - Sunday, August 2, 2026, 4 p.m. Set sail on a musical journey where the smooth sounds of the '70s and '80s come to life in a unique orchestral experience with the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra. Tickets available online. At the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts, 100 S. Virginia St. in Reno. Washoe County Library Book Sale - August 1 - 9, 2026. Sales are in the book store next door to the Sierra View Library in the Reno Town Mall. This is your chance to get big bargains on books and other media while supporting your Washoe County Library System. Sale hours are every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Preview day for Friends members is on the Friday before each sale period, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you aren't a member, you can join Friends at the door. Rose Hwy., Reno. 2026 Back to School Vaccination Events - Saturday, August 1 and 8, 2026. On these dates and more, Northern Nevada Public Health (NNPH) is hosting a number of Back To School Vaccination events. Insurance is not required. The immunizations are required for students to attend Washoe County schools. The vaccines will be available at NNPH, 1001 E. 9th St., Building B, and various other locations. For more information call 775-328-2003. Hot August Nights in Reno and Sparks - Friday through Sunday, July 31 - August 9, 2026. There is so much happening I couldn't even begin to list it, so refer to the Hot August Nights event schedule to see what is going on when and where. The whole Hot August Nights website is excellent and can probably answer just about all of your questions. Harmony on the River - Tuesdays, August 4, 11, 18, 25, 2026, 6:30 p.m. This free community event is set to enchant you in the Reno Riverwalk District. Join us in West Street Plaza, next to Wingfield Park. Immerse yourself in live music by the talented Reno Philharmonic. Lawn chairs recommended. Lazy 5 Summer Music Series - Wednesday, August 5, 2026, 6:30 p.m. This series of free concerts includes food trucks available during each show. Bring blankets and low-back chairs to get comfortable on the lawn. The show this evening features Jelly Bread. The final show of the 2026 series is on August 12, 2026. "Mean Girls The Musical" at Bartley Ranch Regional Park - August 7 - 8, 13 - 16, 21 - 22, 2026. All shows start at 7:30 p.m. Based on Tina Fey's starring Rachel McAdams, Lindsay Lohan, and Amanda Seyfried, Mean Girls: The Musical is a laugh-out-loud, pop-powered celebration of friendship, identity, and finding your voice. Recommended for ages 13 and up. Tickets are available online. Food Truck Friday - Friday, August 7, 2027, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. This is the last 2026 date for Food Truck Friday, Reno's biggest food truck gathering. Come to Idlewild Park to sample a huge variety of food from around 50 food trucks. Hands ON! Second Saturdays - Saturday, August 8, 2026. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for a day of fun family activities and free admission for all. Sponsored by the Estelle J. Kelsey Foundation. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 160 West Liberty in Reno. Classic Tahoe Festival - through August 9, 2026. Each summer, Classical Tahoe brings together America's leading classical musicians for a three-week festival of orchestra concerts on the campus of Sierra Nevada University in Incline Village, Nev. Individual and season tickets are available online. Reno Aces Baseball - August 4 - 9, 2026. The Aces take on the El Paso Chihuahuas for this six game homestand. On August 25 - 30, it's home again for six games against the Sacramento River Cats. Reno Ranger Walks - Sunday, August 9, 2026, 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Join Reno Park Rangers for a free series of guided interpretive walks along some of the city's most scenic walking paths. Learn about each trail's unique natural features and local history while enjoying fresh air and movement with a knowledgeable ranger leading the way. This walk is on the Tom Cooke trail in west Reno. Dog Days of Summer Dance Festival - Friday through Sunday, August 14 - 16, 2026. The Pioneer Center's Dog Days of Summer Dance Festival is a three-night performance event featuring a variety of local dance companies. Presented on the outdoor plaza, this free, family-friendly event is perfect for all ages. Dog Days of Summer Dance Festival serves as a spotlight benefit for SPCA of Northern Nevada. Leave your own dogs at home. Plaza and food trucks at 5:30 p.m., performance at 7:30 p.m. Reno Wine Walk - Saturday, August 15, 2026, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. Visit any of the participating merchants with $30 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area. Valhalla Renaissance Faire - Saturday and Sunday, August 15 - 16, 2026, opens 10 a.m. Prepare to step back in time and immerse yourself in a world of chivalry, enchantment, and merriment. At Tahoe Paradise Park in South Lake Tahoe, CA. No dogs - only trained service animals allowed. Tickets are only available online. Raise the River - Thursday, August 20, 2026, 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. You are invited to the annual Raise the River fundraising event for Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB). It will be at the National Automobile Museum patio along the banks of the Truckee River. Enjoy a mix-and-mingle cocktail reception with libations and unique sensory experiences with our sponsors. A delectable dinner will be served family-style, with sweet treats from Grand Sierra Resort. This is a 21+ event. Tickets and tables are available online. Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival - through August 24, 2026. Come to Sand Harbor at Lake Tahoe to enjoy Shakespeare performances and other entertainment. Tahoe Brewfest - Saturday, August 29, 2026, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tahoe Brewfest brings together the best craft brews from California and around the country. Paired with unbeatable mountain views, music, arts and mouth watering brew bites. It's a brew-lovers paradise. Located along Ski Run Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe, CA. Tickets available online. 55th Running of the Journal Jog 8K - Sunday, August 23, 2026. Reno's oldest footrace is a family friendly event and a great challenge to all levels of runners and walkers. The Stroller-Run division allows a parent can run with their stroller and try to place in the top 3. All the rest will enter in the Run/Walk/Stroller-Walk division. Starts at 8:05 a.m. at Reno High School. There are a number of perks for racers and awards for the top finishers. No pets. You can register online. Burning Man 2026 - Burning Man happens at Black Rock City and is playing from August 30 through September 7, 2026. The 2026 art theme is "Axis Mundi." Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook Off - September 2 to September 7, 2026. 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday. The Nugget Rib Cook-Off is really a cooking competition between the professional barbeque teams that will also be serving ribs and fixins to the public during the event. There are other things to see and do for all ages, including free entertainment, Crafter's Crossing, a big kids' area with rides and activities, and a Beer Garden. At Victorian Square in Sparks. No dogs. Nevada Wolf Pack Football - Saturday, September 5, 2026. The Wolf Pack opens its 2026 season with home game vs. Western Kentucky University. The next weekend (September 12, 2026) features another home game vs. Montana State at Mackay Stadium in Reno.
