Summer Camps for Kids - Summer camps are starting. For the best choice and pricing, now is the time to get your kids signed up for the camps and activities they will enjoy during summer vacation.

2022 Summer Reading Challenge - June 1 through July 31, 2022. This year's theme is "Oceans of Possibilities." The program is open to readers of all ages, with prizes available to participants ages 0 - 18. The first 2,000 kids who sign up will receive a Summer Reading Challenge-themed activity bag, and participants can earn free books just by reading or attending library events. For other fun free stuff going on at the libraries, refer to "Free Events and Programs at Washoe County Libraries."

Feed the Camel - opening for the season on June 1, 2022. Come enjoy fun family evenings and get great food at the same time. "Feed the Camel" is on Wednesday evenings at McKinley Arts and Culture Center.

Reno Food & Drink Week - Wednesday to Wednesday, June 1 - 8, 2022. Come dine at dozens of food and drink establishments (including breweries and distilleries) in Reno, Sparks and elsewhere in Northern Nevada. For Reno Food & Drink Week, each establishment is serving a special cocktail, signature dish, prix fixe menu, tasting flight or something else. Net proceeds benefit the 2022 Hungry Gives Back recipients. After this, Sparks Food & Drink Week kicks off with another 20 participants through June 15, 2022.

Reno Aces Baseball - Wednesday, June 1, 2022. June starts with five games against Tacoma at Greater Nevada Field, followed by a six game homestand vs. the Oklahoma City Dodgers from June 14 to 19. The month winds up with three games against Sacramento from June 28 - 30.

Nevada State Fair - Thursday through Sunday, June 2 - 5, 2022. The Nevada State Fair will be held at Mills Park in the Nevada state capital of Carson City. Family friendly as always, the event will have all the fun things to do fair goers have come to expect, from a midway carnival and rides to livestock and lots of entertainment. Fairgrounds entry and parking are free.

Programs on the Porch at Bowers Mansion - Friday, June 3, 2022, 7 p.m. The show tonight is the Sierra Sweethearts. This entertainment series presents a variety of musical performances in outdoors shows in front of Bowers Mansion, 4005 U.S. Highway 395 North in Washoe Valley. Bring a blanket or low-back chair. Performances are free, with donations accepted for the performers. The final two shows in the 2022 series are the Sierra Highlanders Pipe Band on June 10 and Sierra Alphorn Players on June 17.

Reno-Tahoe Odyssey - Friday and Saturday, June 3 - 4, 2022. Besides the main relay run that goes up to Lake Tahoe, there are two other runs involved - the Capital Odyssey and the Comstock Odyssey. How all this works is a bit complicated, so visit the website for all the details on how to participate.

Social Science: Pride - Saturday, June 4, 2022, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Come to The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum and explore the science of rainbows, create a communal art installation using LEDs, delve into the science of self esteem, witness drag queen science demonstrations, learn about LGBTQ+ people in STEM fields, and much, much more. All are welcome for this inclusive celebration. Social Science is The Discovery's popular adults-only, brain building event series. It is recommended that you buy tickets online in advance.

Street Vibrations Spring Rally - Friday through Sunday, June 3 - 5, 2022. The annual event will feature live entertainment, bike games, competition ride-in shows, poker run, dozens of vendor booths, and participant parties for registrants. The event is open and free to the public and will be centered in downtown Reno. Virginia City will host a poker walk, live entertainment, VIP bike parking and more. Reno Harley-Davidson and Battleborn Harley-Davidson will host open houses and special promotions.

National Trails Day - Saturday, June 4, 2022. National Trails Day recognizes the incredible benefits of federal, state and local trails. Events held throughout the United States encourage people to discover their local trails and share their excitement for the outdoors. Locally, Friends of Black Rock High Rock are sponsoring a trail maintenance weekend at a remote location in the Black Rock National Conservation Area.

Live at the Village Vanguard - Saturday and Sunday, June 4 - 5, 2022. Music of the Thad Jones and Mel Lewis Orchestra performed by the Reno Jazz Orchestra. This big band jazz orchestra became world famous, especially with their 1967 release, Live at the Village Vanguard. Performances at Good Luck Macbeth Theater in Reno. Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 4 p.m. Tickets are available online.

Mark Wellman's Adventure Day and Abilities Expo at Sparks Marina - Sunday, June 5, 2022, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A variety of adaptive sports will be featured at the free annual Mark Wellman's Adventure Day event at the Sparks Marina Park. People with disabilities and their friends and families are invited to try out hand-cycling, kayaking and rock climbing through the use of a broad range of adaptive equipment.

Public Swimming Pools and Water Play Places - Many opening in June. Check out all of the water fun available in Reno, Sparks, and other places in Washoe County. When the heat's on, head for the water.

Discover Your Parks Walks - through September 29, 2022. Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is leading free walks in different parks located in Washoe County. These walks start at 6 p.m. on Thursday evenings and vary in distance from half a mile to 2 miles. Each week, you can explore a new location and learn about the unique and varied ecology and history of parks in our area. Walks are open to all, but capacity is limited - register online from the website for each walk. Call (775) 453-0698 for more information.

"Disney in Concert: Magical Music from the Movies" at the Pioneer Center - Sunday, June 5, 2022. The Reno Phil is proud to present Disney’s Magical Music from the Movies, featuring four Broadway caliber vocalists, clips from iconic Disney movies including Frozen, Beauty & the Beast, The Lion King and more, and some of the best known film music in cinematic history. Food Truck Friday - Reno Street Food - opening June 10, 2022. Come to Reno's Idlewild Park for an evening of fun, music, and lots of good things to eat and drink from Reno's fleet of food trucks. It's free to come enjoy the park from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., but the food and drink are for sale. Reno Street Food will be every Friday through August, 2022. No Dogs. Go to "Food Trucks and Food Truck Events in Reno and Sparks" for information about more food truck events.

Quilt Show Reno - Thursday through Saturday, June 9 - 11, 2022. Quilt Show Reno includes a large vendor mall, workshops, lectures, make-it-take-it projects, free stage venues, demonstrations and presentations. At the Reno - Sparks Convention Center and Atlantis Casino Resort. Free parking. Hours 10 a.m. 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Annual BBQ, Brews & Blues Festival - Friday and Saturday, June 10 - 11, 2022. Come sample the tastiest BBQ around. Sip on brew from over 50 microbreweries. Enjoy free live entertainment on two stages in downtown Reno. Friday 3 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Visit the website for more information and to buy tickets online. 21+ event.

Hands ON! Second Saturday at the Nevada Museum of Art - Saturday, June 11, 2022. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for fun for the whole family, including storytelling, art activities, live performances, and all current exhibits. This month, come to enjoy the Sounds of Summer. Admission to the Museum is free for all on Second Saturdays.

Free Fishing Day in Nevada - Saturday, June 11, 2022. During the annual Free Fishing Day, anglers may fish in any public fishing water in the state without needing a fishing license or trout stamp. All limits and other regulations apply.

Discover Nevada State Parks Day - Saturday, June 11, 2022. Free day-use admission and free fishing at all Nevada State Parks. This statewide event encourages Nevadans to discover the many exciting and affordable recreation opportunities right in their own backyards. Discover Nevada State Parks Day is also an opportunity for visitors to take the passport challenge and add a stamp to their passport booklet or to pick one up while visiting any state park.

Bloody Mary Day Crawl - Saturday, June 11, 2022, 12 noon to 6 p.m. Bloody Mary day will be a chance to soak up some rays in a relaxed atmosphere where we can all enjoy some tasty drinks, listen to some tunes and stroll around hitting up our favorite bars. Initially, only 500 cups will be sold at $10 each. That gets you specials on bloody marys, beers and other drinks. Ten different establishments will be participating, all within walking distance. Starts at The Eddy in downtown Reno. Cups are for sale online.

Kids Free Fishing Day - Saturday, June 11, 2022. Kids Free Fishing Day is at Sparks Marina Park. The Rotary Club of Sparks provides the first attendees with a free fishing pole and also supplies the bait and coaching needed to help them have a fun day fishing at the Sparks Marina. Attendees are not required to have a fishing license on this special day. There will also be additional activities. The Club will also host a Special Needs Kids Free Fishing Day on June 9.

Guided Walking Tours from HRPS - The first 2022 walk has been rescheduled to August 6 at 9 a.m. That makes the actual first walk on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 9 a.m. Subsequent tours are on Saturdays and Tuesdays in June and July. Presented by Historic Reno Preservation Society, tours are open to the public. These walks are for you if you want to know more about Reno's colorful past and the remnants that remain scattered throughout the city.

Washoe County Library Book Sale - June 11 - 19, 2022. Sales are in the book store next door to the Sierra View Library in the Reno Town Mall. This is your chance to get big bargains on books and other media while supporting your Washoe County Library System. Sale hours are every day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Preview day for Friends members is on the Friday before each sale period, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you aren't a member, you can join Friends at the door.

Walks with Washoe County Park Rangers - Sunday, June 12, 2022, 10 a.m. Washoe County park rangers lead these outings at locations around the county. Walks are at various times and days and are free and open to the public. Pre-registration required. This hike is on the Pah Rah Interpretive Trail at Golden Eagle Regional Park. The next outing is at Davis Creek Regional Park on June 28.

Summer Music Series at Lazy 5 Regional Park - Wednesday, June 15, 2022. White Water Retooled is the first concert of the series. Other concerts with a variety of entertainers will follow on Wednesday evenings through August 17. Concerts are free and begin at 6:30 p.m. Bring the family and a picnic to enjoy the show. No pets, smoking or glass containers allowed. Lazy 5 Regional Park is at 7100 Pyramid Way out in Spanish Springs.

Reno Rodeo - Thursday through Saturday, June 16 - 25, 2022. The Reno Rodeo is a huge event with lots of activities and things to do for the whole family in addition to the rodeo itself. You don't need to be a buckaroo to enjoy the fun and action at the "Wildest, Richest Rodeo in the West." This year marks the 103rd anniversary of the Reno Rodeo.

Reno Wine Walk - Saturday, June 18, 2022. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. Visit any of the participating merchants with $30 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area. This is a 21+ event. Pets and strollers are not advised. For more information, call 775-825-WALK(9255).

Junior Naturalist Program from Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation - Saturday, June 18, 2022, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. This month we'll explore the Rosewood Nature Study Area to learn about the worth of wetlands. In addition to our Junior Naturalist Program activities, we are teaming up with the rest of the Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation for the Carpe Diem Fishing Derby. There will be carp fishing, a raffle, BBQ lunch available for purchase, and more. The fishing derby starts at 8 a.m. You can register online.

32nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration - Sunday, June 19, 2022, 12 noon to 9 p.m. Juneteenth is the day African-Americans celebrate their independence. The Northern Nevada Black Cultural Awareness Society (NNBCAS) invites the entire community to join this 3-part celebration: Church in the Park, Family Day Celebration, and Black Music Month Concert. Note that the concert is a ticketed event. The event will be at Idlewild Park in Reno.

Father's Day - Sunday, June 19, 2022. There are lots of fun things you can do to treat your Dad on his special day.

First Day of Summer - Tuesday, June 21, 2022.

2022 Galena Campfire Programs - every Friday June 24 to August 5, 2022, 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Join Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space for a fun family program around the campfire. Each week will feature a different presenter for kids of all ages to enjoy. Bring the family out early for a picnic. Treats will be available to enjoy around the campfire at 8 p.m. The program starts at 8:30 p.m. Eagle Meadow is located inside the north entrance to Galena Creek Regional Park at 18250 Mt. Rose Highway (Galena Creek Visitor Center entrance). The programs are free, but donations are welcome to help fund the program.

Sierra Arts Festival - Saturday and Sunday, June 25 - 26, 2022, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sierra Arts Festival celebrates local artists at the downtown Wingfield Park with a free all day outdoor, open air art market, music, family friendly entertainment, a beer garden, local food trucks and packed activities.

Rancho San Rafael Regional Park celebrates 40 years - Saturday, June 25, 2022. Washoe County's largest regional park is celebrating 40 years of fun with a birthday celebration on Saturday. The day will lift off at 6:30 a.m. with a five-balloon launch sponsored by the Great Reno Balloon Race, immediately followed by a full day of activities, music, food, and family fun. Dragon Lights Reno - July 1 through August 12, 2022. Dragon Lights Reno will again illuminate the Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Gardens in Rancho San Rafael Park with all new lantern displays. Forty-two larger-than-life lantern sculptures, lit by thousands of LED lights, will transform the arboretum into a luminous wonderland during mid-summer nights. New at Dragon Lights Reno this year is an interactive playground with lantern displays that visitors can touch, play with, and even sit on. Inside the arboretum, visitors can also find a new Lantern Food Court that offers a wide selection of food and drinks from both local and traveling food vendors. It is best to purchase tickets online ahead of time. Tickets at the box office may not be available on any night that the festival reaches capacity. Be sure to visit the website for more details about the event and obtaining tickets.
