All Fools' Day - Thursday, April 1, 2021. Also known as April Fool's Day. Don't get caught being foolish.

Discover Your Parks Free Walks - In-person Discover Your Parks Walks are back for 2021. They occur every Thursday from April through September. The first is on April 1, 2021 at Swan Lake. The next on April 8 explores the Tom Cooke Trail. Visit the web page for a full list. Attendance is limited and you must register to participate. If you would rather, you can virtually visit several popular parks and trails with guided hike presentations available from "Virtual Guided Hikes" on the TMPF website.

The Passion according to St. Matthew by J. S. Bach - Musicians and Choral Soloists of the Toccata-Tahoe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus will perform selections from Part II of Bach's Masterpiece, 'The Passion According to St Matthew.' Concerts will be performed without ticketing. Donations are preferred at the door, or online.

Grow Your Own, Nevada! Gardening Classes - Tuesday, April 6, 2021. For spring 2021, classes will be offered via Zoom only. They will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays in April. Classes are offered for free and enrollment opens in March. Classes will be online only. The registration fee is being waived, but you still must register to attend the online classes.

Before Reno and Sparks — Early Communities in the Truckee Meadows - Tuesday, April 6, 2021, 5:30 p.m. Early settlers in the Truckee Meadows knew nothing of Reno or Sparks. Instead, they lived in communities like Eastman Mill and Brown's Crossing — villages whose names no longer appear on modern maps. Join Betsy Morse and the Historic Reno Preservation Society for this virtual presentation via Zoom.

Hands ON! Second Saturdays at the Nevada Museum of Art - Saturday, April 10, 2021. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for fun for the whole family, including storytelling, art activities, live performances, and all current exhibits. Admission to the Museum is free for all on Second Saturdays, but you must visit the website to obtain advanced admission tickets and choose the time for your visit. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Science Saturdays at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, April 10, 2021. Join in on an adventure that is out of this world - "Traveling on Titanic." Tickets are sold per family group starting at $36. Admission is limited to 8 groups. For participants age 8 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pre-registration is required approximately two days before the event. Call the Museum at (775) 333-9300 for more information.

Free Easter Egg Hunts - Saturday and Sunday, April 3 - 4, 2021. There are several free Easter Egg hunts around Reno and up at Lake Tahoe on this Easter weekend. Some of these are big productions. Check out my list to find one near you.

Easter Brunch and Dining - Sunday, April 4, 2021. You don't have to cook up a big meal on this holiday. Enjoy Easter Sunday brunch or dinner at any of several venues around the Reno / Sparks area.

Free April Events & Programs at the Washoe County Library - The Washoe County Library System features a wide variety of programs and events every month. There are those for everyone in the family and some suited to certain age groups. At this point, everything is offered online as branches are not yet open for in person visits.

Young at Art: A Selection of Caldecott Book Winners at the Wilbur D. May Museum - through April 30, 2021. Since 1938, the Association for Library Service to Children has awarded the Caldecott Medal for excellence in children's book illustrations. This exhibition features the original illustrations and books from Caldecott Medal recipients including the first Caldecott Award recipient Dorothy P. Lathrop (1938) and Maurice Sendak (1964), whose work Where the Wild Things Are was adapted for the big screen. Admission: $6 adults / $4 seniors and children. The Wilbur D. Baby Animal Days and Tulip Festival at Andelin Family Farm - Wednesdays through Saturdays, April 7 to May 1, 2021, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. You will be able to have unique and special experiences with our farm baby animals. Plus lots of fun activities like the barrel train, hay ride, mini zips, giant slide, pony rides, sluice mining activity and more. There are a variety of tickets options available online. Free Admission to National Parks - Saturday, April 17, 2021. On the first day of National Park Week, it's free admission to all parks and other sites operated by the National Park Service. This includes parks around the west like Yosemite, Lassen Volcanic, Death Valley, and Great Basin. Other fees, such as for overnight camping and cabin rentals, will still apply. Be sure to check of your park of choice is open.

Reno Riverwalk Wine Walk - Saturday, April 17, 2021. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. Tickets are limited to ONLY 250 participants, ticket start locations are staggered and all guests are required to wear a mask. Tickets available online. This is a 21+ event. Pets and strollers are not advised. For more information, call 775-825-WALK(9255).

2021 Junior Naturalist Program - Saturday, April 17, 2021. The Junior Naturalist Program from Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is a free outdoor program for children of all ages to learn about local plants and animals. Parent/guardian required. Join us from your living room as we broadcast to you from Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. We will be learning about some amazing plants and doing exciting activities together. This month, we will provide individually bagged supplies for you to use in your activity and experiment. Supplies will be available at our Idlewild Office (50 Cowan Dr.) for you to pick up from Tuesday, April 13 to Friday, April 16. We will email you the morning of your chosen date with a reminder to pick up your supply kit.

31st DRI Nevada Medal - Tuesday, April 20, 2021, 5 p.m. The Desert Research Institute will be hosting a free virtual event to honor Dr. Kathryn D Sullivan and present the 31st Nevada Medal Award. Titled "Sea, Earth & Sky: Celebrating the Spirit of Scientific Exploration, Discovery & Innovation," the special, hour-long program highlights Dr. Sullivan's remarkable career as an oceanographer, NASA astronaut, and administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. This is a free virtual event, but you must register to attend.

Earth Day - Thursday, April 22, 2021.

Earth Day Celebrations - Almost all Earth Day events have been canceled. One exception is Earth Week at Lake Tahoe, where a week of numerous activities are planned.

Science Distilled: Protecting the Desert - Wednesday, April 28, 2021, 7:30 p.m. This free edition brings together a group of stewards, who bring their talents in storytelling, science, organizing, and educating to the topic of protecting the desert. Science Distilled is now being hosted virtually via Zoom. Be sure to register to attend so you do not miss it.

Annual Reno Jazz Festival - There will be no live Reno Jazz Festival in 2021. We will have some virtual programming in 2021 including live events with our guest artists, acclaimed saxophonist, composer and educator, Miguel Zenón and vocalist Michael Mayo. Visit the website for details.

KTMB Great Community Clean-Up - Saturday, May 1, 2021, 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Join Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) for the annual Great Community Cleanup. This event focuses on the cleanup of illegal dump sites and noxious weeds in the open spaces surrounding the Truckee Meadows. Every year over 750 volunteers come together to clean up our community. You will be able to choose from over 20 sites throughout the Truckee Meadows open-spaces. Go to Volunteer Opportunities to sign up and pick a work site.

50th Annual Virginia City Grand Prix - Saturday and Sunday, October 23 - 24, 2021. Experience legendary racing in historic Virginia City where thousands of motocross riders challenge themselves in the surrounding hills. Racing takes place both days. This being Virginia City, there will be lots of related activities and things to do while the motocross racers are zipping through town and around the rugged high desert.
