All Fools' Day - Monday, April 1, 2019. Also known as April Fool's Day. Don't get caught being foolish.

Grow Your Own, Nevada! Gardening Classes - Tuesday, April 2, 2019. Spring 2019 Grow Your Own, Nevada! workshops will be held twice weekly during April, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Classes are for homeowners and other small scale growers. They concentrate on imparting basic horticultural information and also provides information about new and alternative growing methods. The registration fee for classes is $15 each or $60 for all 8 classes.

Discover Your Parks Free Walks - Thursday, April 4, 2019. The first walk in the 2019 series will be at Truckee Meadows Nature Study Area. More walks at Reno and Sparks parks will be held every Thursday evening through September. Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation is leading these free walks. Each week, you can explore a new location and learn about the unique and varied ecology and history of parks in our area. Walks are open to everyone.

Reno Cannabis Convention - Saturday and Sunday, April 6 - 7, 2019. This event is an industry trade show that encompasses the emerging local cannabis community in Reno. The event serves to foster industry growth through advocacy and education about current and future products/services in the cannabis industry. At this event, every facet of the cannabis industry is represented. Tickets are available online. It will be at the Whitney Peak Hotel, 255 N. Virginia Street (next to the Reno Arch).

Rosebud's Dance Band at the Brewery Arts Center - Saturday, April 6, 2019, 7 p.m. Some of the approximately 20 musicians are members of the Carson Valley Pops Orchestra. The band plays mostly Big Band era dance, jazz, and swing, with some modern pieces. Bring your dancing shoes. The Brewery Arts Center is at 449 West King Street in Carson City.

Reno Aces Baseball - Tuesday, April 9, 2019. The Reno Aces' opening home game at Greater Nevada Field is vs. the Albuquerque Isotopes. First pitch will be at 6:35 p.m. This will be a seven-game home stand. Seven more home games will follow later in the month - April 24 through 30.

Shooting the West - April 9 - 14, 2019. The ultimate Nevada Photography Experience is an annual event held in Winnemucca, about 160 miles east of Reno on I80. There are numerous workshops, symposium, photo contests, talks from top photographers, field trips, and more. Registration is available online or by calling (775) 623-5071.

"Biggest Little Blues Club" benefit for Bristlecone Family Resources - Thursday, April 11, 2019, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The event will be a 1920's speakeasy with a modern twist. Tapas buffet, VIP bottle service sponsorship, auction and high-end raffle, with signature drinks and password entry cocktails. It will be held at NoVi inside the Eldorado casino in downtown Reno. Healthy Parks Healthy People 5K Fun Run/Walk - Saturday, April 13, 2019, 9 a.m. Truckee Meadows Parks Foundation, in partnership with Washoe County, is proud to present their Healthy Parks Healthy People 5K Fun Run/Walk and free Kids' Obstacle Course Fun Run at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park. Through April 6, run registration is $25. After April 6, registration is $30. The Kids' Fun Run is free, but parents must pre-register their children on the RunSignUp page.

Hands ON! Second Saturdays - Saturday, April 13, 2019. Come to the Nevada Museum of Art for a day of fun family activities and free admission for all. There is a different theme each month. Enjoy live performances, hands-on art activities, storytelling and live performances.

Science Saturdays at the National Automobile Museum - Saturday, April 13, 2019. Admission is $12 per person for children and adults, which also includes admission to the Museum and free refreshments. For participants age 8 and up. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pre-registration is required by approximately two days before the event. Kickoff to Summer & BBQ at Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows - Saturday, April 13, 2019, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a free, fun event and everyone is encouraged to attend. We will be offering free memberships and early registration to our traditional and speciality summer camps for kids and teens. It will be at the Donald W. Reynolds Facility at 2680 East 9th Street in Reno.

Grand Opening of The Hive at Lazy 5 Regional Park - Saturday, April 13, 2019, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please join us in celebrating your new public recreation facility. There will be something for everyone with live music, Paisan's deli food truck and mobile pub, pickleball demonstrations, a public basketball shootout, a skateboarder show, kids crafts, karate demos, live mural painting, and more. The Hive was repurposed from a sand storage dome to now serve as a unique public recreation facility. This event is free and open to the public. Lazy 5 Regional Park is at 7100 Pyramid Lake Highway in Sparks.

Reno Rodeo 100th Anniversary in June 2019 - Wednesday, April 17, 2019. This free program is brought to you by the Historic Reno Preservation Society and is one of a series. The program starts at 5:30 p.m. and will at the Northwest Reno Library, 2325 Robb Drive.
The next program, on Sunday, April 28, 2019, is titled "Reno MoMo," after the architectural Modern Movement. It starts at 12:30 p.m. in the Downtown Reno Library, 301 S. Center Street.

The Sierra Sweethearts at Brewery Arts Center - Friday, April 19, 2019, 7 p.m. The Sierra Sweethearts are Reno's premier all-woman ensemble. With sparkling vocal harmonies, sizzling instrumentals and rather frequent outburst of laughter and silliness, these gals always entertain. Join this talented group as they celebrate the release of their newest CD. The Brewery Arts Center is at 449 West King Street in Carson City.

Free Easter Egg Hunts - Saturday, April 20, 2019. There are several free Easter Egg hunts around Reno and up at Lake Tahoe on this day before Easter. Some of these are big productions. Check out my list to find one near you. Note that a few are on April 21, Easter Sunday.

Student Outreach Clinics from UNR - Saturday, April 20, 2019, 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The General and Pediatrics Clinics provides provides general medical care, including complete physical exams and nutrition counseling, plus medical care for pediatric patients from newborns to teenagers. Patients are seen on a first-come basis. It is free to be seen at the clinics, but certain referrals may not be covered and the cost is the patients' responsibility. Donations are gladly accepted, with the traditional donation being $5. All clinics are held at the Family Medicine Center on the University of Nevada, Reno campus, located at the corner of 17th St. and East Stadium Way, northeast of Mackay Stadium. (775) 682-8646.

Easter Brunch and Dining - Sunday, April 21, 2019. You don't have to cook up a big meal on this holiday. Enjoy Easter Sunday brunch or dinner at any of several venues around the Reno / Sparks area.

Reno Vegan Chef Challenge - month of April, 2019. Special plant-based menu options will be available in addition to regular menu items at select Reno and Sparks restaurants. There is no central event location. Each restaurant will offer unique, healthy, tasty, and satisfying vegan dishes specifically made for this event. Everyone who dines at participating restaurants can submit their ratings.

KTMB Great Community Clean-Up - Saturday, April 27, 2019, 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Join Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful (KTMB) for the 14th annual Great Community Cleanup. This event focuses on the cleanup of illegal dump sites and noxious weeds in the open spaces surrounding the Truckee Meadows. Every year over 750 volunteers come together to clean up our community. You will be able to choose from over 20 sites throughout the Truckee Meadows open-spaces. Go to Volunteer Opportunities to sign up and pick a work site.

Free April Events & Programs at the Washoe County Library - The Washoe County Library System features different programs and events every month. There are those for everyone in the family and some suited to certain age groups. Each library branch hosts certain events that are unique to that branch. All activities are free and open to the public.

"The Lost World of Dragons" at the Wilbur D. May Museum - through May 12, 2019. The Lost World of Dragons is a world of fantasy and adventure. Discover the stories and mythology of dragons throughout history and around the world. Get a thrill from larger-than-life animatronic dragons. Try out a virtual reality experience that lets you ride a flying dragon. Sit on a throne and sneak through a dragon's lair, and much more. This entertaining and educational exhibit will be at the Wilbur D. May Museum in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park in Reno, 1595 N. Sierra Street. (775) 785-5961.

Reno 1868 FC Soccer - Saturday, April 20, 2019. Reno's professional soccer team, Reno 1868 FC, will be hosting New Mexico United at Greater Nevada Field. The game starts at 6:45 p.m. Single-game tickets, group tickets and other options are available online.

Baby Animal Days at Andelin Family Farm - Thursday, Friday, Saturday, April 11 - 13, 18 - 20 and 25 - 27, 2019, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. This event features farm babies, including chicks, ducklings, bunnies, piglets, lambs, goat kids and calves along with our other friendly and cute farm animals. Farm visitors will be able to hold and pet chicks, as well as interact with and pet goat kids, lambs and calves. Admission is $7 per person Thursdays and Fridays, $8 on Saturdays and includes hay ride, cow train ride, fun track, face painting, bunny hop activity, straw bale maze, barn yard activities and face painting (Saturdays only). Free Admission to National Parks - Saturday, April 20, 2019. On the first day of National Park Week, it's free admission to all parks and other sites operated by the National Park Service. This includes parks around the west like Yosemite, Lassen Volcanic, Death Valley, and Great Basin. Other fees, such as for overnight camping and cabin rentals, will still apply.

Reno Riverwalk Wine Walk - Saturday, April 20, 2019. The Riverwalk Merchants present this fun event every third Saturday of the month. Visit one of the participating merchants selling glasses with $20 and receive your wine glass and hand stamp (with photo ID), then make the rounds sampling wines at numerous businesses in the area. This is a 21+ event. Pets and strollers are not advised. For more information, call 775-825-WALK(9255).

Earth Day Celebrations - Saturdays, April 20 and 27, 2019. Reno's traditional Earth Day Celebration at Idlewild Park has been canceled for 2019, planned to return in 2020. Meanwhile, check my article for more Earth Day events in Reno and up at Tahoe Truckee and South Lake Tahoe.

57th Annual Reno Jazz Festival - Thursday to Saturday, April 25 - 27, 2019. The Reno Jazz Festival brings to Reno both talented students and renowned professional artists. There will also be many workshops with some of the finest clinicians and performers in the country. Concerts will be at venues on campus at the University of Nevada, Reno. The website has complete information about the concerts. Tickets can be purchased online. There is no convenience fee on tickets purchased in person at the Lawlor Events Center Box Office. Truckee Meadows Earth Day - Sunday, April 28, 2019, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come to Mayberry Park and enjoy live music, food, bird watching, pollinator planting and education, and more. Bring your reusable utensils, water bottles, plates, and napkins for free raffle tickets. This is an alcohol-free event. Mayberry Park is in west Reno at 101 Woodland Avenue. Sponsored by the City of Reno and several other public and private organizations.

Monthly Reno Beer Crawl - Saturday, April 27, 2019. This event is in downtown Reno where all of the participating bars, pubs, and restaurants are within walking (or crawling) distance. It costs $5 to participate and you can just show up at one of the start bars - advance tickets not required. Crawling is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

KTMB 2019 Great Community Cleanup - Saturday, April 27, 2019, 8 a.m. to 12 noon. This volunteer event focuses on the cleanup of illegal dump sites in the open spaces surrounding the Truckee Meadows as well as the removal of noxious weeds before they bloom and spread. You can sign up online and pick a spot where you would like to work.

48th Annual Virginia City Grand Prix - Saturday and Sunday, April 27 - 28, 2019. Experience legendary racing in historic Virginia City where thousands of motocross riders challenge themselves in the surrounding hills. Racing takes place both days. This being Virginia City, there will be lots of related activities and things to do while the motocross racers are zipping through town and around the rugged high desert.

Prescription Drug Round Up - Saturday, April 27, 2019, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Turn in unused or expired medications for safe disposal. Acceptable items are prescription drugs in original containers with patient name marked out, prescription liquids and pet medications. Drop off locations in Reno are...

Nevada Humane Society Yard Sale - Saturday and Sunday, April 27 - 28, 2019, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Featuring a variety of treasures generously donated by the community, all proceeds raised will directly benefit homeless pets at Nevada Humane Society. The yard sale will take place in the parking lot behind Nevada Humane Society, located at 2825 Longley Lane in Reno.
